Lake Washington High School Bands

Hello Parents and Students of LWHS Bands

This is a happy report to you about our great trip to Vancouver B.C. and our performances there, plus a special invitation to our final band concert of the school year.

Our Heritage Festival Vancouver B.C. report:  In short, LWHS was the most awarded music program by far and won the Instrumental Sweepstakes Trophy, as well as the Festival Sweepstakes Trophy.  This was our band program’s very first Heritage Festival appearance, and all three of our band groups entered either won outright or placed.   Our school’s string orchestra also won and both of our choirs placed.   We are ecstatic.  All told, our groups and individual students brought home 15 awards.

We hope no parent misses our final concert tomorrow evening.  Let’s make the first ever concert in our new gym a memorable one!!!

 Thank you,

 John Logan

Director of Bands

THANK YOU TO PARENTS: One major reason why LW “Set The Bar” and received so many compliments regarding how well the Contest went was due to our incredible band, choir, and orchestra parents who gave of their time and energy to volunteer for part or all of the day.  From providing lunch and snacks, to monitoring performance rooms, to greeting at the welcome desk, to posting scores and filing paperwork, Mr. Peterson and myself are gratefully amazed at our SUPERIOR cadre of parent support and volunteerism.  At the risk of missing some, please accept my thanks to the following band parents who pitched in on Feb 7thDiane Axworthy, Tony Blackner, Becky Bloomstine, Sue Genty, Robin Krause, Ken Kruller, Nenced Kundacina, Cheryl Middleton, Jill Stinogel, Leslie Taylor, Robin Tzucker, George and Karan Waterman and a very special thanks to the “above and beyond” parents for so skillfully and diligently managing the posting of students’ scores and processing tons of paperwork:  Bryan and Sylvia Lindgren.  For providing and setting up and taking down of the great food service for adjudicators and teachers: Lindsay Blackner.  For creating the fantastic written program: Choir parent Michelle Lustgarten.  And for being the head parent recruiter/organizer:  the fantastic Suzanne Kagen

Band Students Recognized -- Congratulations to sophomores Michael Deroche and Maria  Kapush who back in September auditioned and were selected for the All-State Concert Band.  Their concert was held in Yakima on Monday, Feb 15.   Also Congrats to Jazz Ensemble guitarist Dustin Glassmoyer, who earned an Outstanding Soloist Award at the Jon Mowad Jazz Festival held last month at Central Washington University in Ellensburg.
